Not every surface takes a finish coat directly. Smooth backgrounds, concrete, low suction masonry — you need an undercoat first that actually bonds and gives your finish something to grip. This is that undercoat. Gypsum-based, fine mix, designed specifically for surfaces that won’t absorb water the normal way or don’t have the tooth for direct finishing.

Where it gets used

New walls where the masonry’s smooth and won’t grip a finish coat directly, existing walls being made good before re-plastering, plasterboard that needs an undercoat, any interior surface where you need a workable base layer before the finish. Professional plastering work, renovation projects, interior construction.

Mix about 14 litres of clean water per 25kg bag. Add the plaster gradually to the water while mixing — don’t dump it all in at once. Apply at 11mm on walls, 8mm on plasterboard. Let it set, then apply your finish coat. Always use an appropriate finishing plaster over the top — don’t try to decorate straight onto the undercoat.
