A laminate worktop’s edge is fine — it’s factory-sealed. But a cut end, wherever a worktop finishes at an island, a peninsula, or the end of a run, exposes the chipboard core underneath. Left uncapped, that’s where water gets in first and the board starts swelling. This cap seals that exposed end off, so it behaves like the rest of the worktop instead of being the weak point.

Fitted during the worktop install, once the end’s been cut to size — it needs to go on before the worktop’s fully fixed down in most cases, so it’s worth planning for at the templating stage rather than adding after. Comes through the same suppliers as the rest of our building materials range.
